Following the success of the first Airport Preschool which opened in 2017, the Airport Authority expands their child care facilities for staff with a second and larger preschool at the G/F of the CP4E building adjacent to Terminal 1.
The Preschool caters to children from birth to 3 years old. The infants are most protected in the deep end of the school, and visibility is maintained through the windows of the threshold diaper changing rooms. Children from 1-2 occupies the window side classroom, which has the most space to nurture fine motor and large muscle movements. 2-3 years old toddlers are most active and they use the central classroom for small group play, and they can roam the corridors and the indoor play area for other physical stimulation and activities. Utility areas such as lactation room, kitchen and laundry are neatly organized to one side of the Preschool leaving the optimal spaces for children.
To create the most spacious indoor play area, the upper walls of the classrooms lean back in a fashion similar to pitched roofs; it has the added benefit of making the classrooms more intimate. The extended ceiling area of the play area is filled with faceted wood panels of a gradient shade from lightest at the window wall to darkest towards the infants room, and it offers the space a unique and appropriate sense of playfulness and intimacy.
